The designer who upped her digital marketing game. Meet Roberta.

Roberta Attard is a Senior Creative Designer at leading iGaming provider GiG. With years of design experience under her belt, she’s a firm believer that designers should gain digital marketing skills in order to do even better work. So she enrolled in the Professional Diploma in Digital Marketing to become an even stronger talent. This is her story.

You’re a Senior Creative Designer at GIG. What made you enrol in the Professional Diploma in Digital Marketing?

My studies were in graphic design and I come from a graphic design background. However, in my first job I was a marketing assistant and I always thought marketing skills would be useful to better understand how advertising works and how digital data can help drive results. Throughout my career, I have learnt that designers should gain digital marketing skills, too. Two friends recommended this course and I’m so glad I listened to their advice!

Designers should gain digital marketing skills. Why is that?

As a designer, you need to make creative decisions on a regular basis. When you have digital marketing data handy and you’re able to understand it, then you become able to make data-driven decisions based on which audiences are being targeted, what people are viewing and clicking, and more. You will have better opportunities to create content that works first time round, and to make amends more effectively.

How was your study experience?

I don’t think you can easily find a course as practical as this. Our educator was fantastic & an expert in his field. He explained everything in a detailed manner, giving us practical examples from his industry scenarios — and there were plenty! The syllabus was packed with insights and covered a lot of areas. At first I was a bit overwhelmed about how intense the course would be, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was just the right fit.

Did you have a favourite module?

I think Google Analytics and Google Ads were my favourites — I loved getting into the technical side! I would say that social media marketing skills are helping me the most, since I design for ‘that side of digital’ very often in my current role. Keeping updated on all the different platforms is fundamental.

What’s next for you?

While I’m immersed in my career, I’d like to keep investing in my skills. I would love to further my digital marketing knowledge, in fact I’ve been eyeing the DMI Expert in Digital Marketing course with postgraduate-level content for a while. Just need to make some time for it!

Do you have a message for design talent who wish to up their game?

If you’re a designer, you can gain digital marketing skills even if you don’t have a marketing background. Digital marketing is the perfect complement to graphic design, so go for it — having that strategic insight will enable you to become more aware of brand and business goals, and to do better work.

Roberta is a talented designer with a clear vision. The digital marketing skills she gained are helping her make better creative decisions and she encourages fellow designers to gain that knowledge too. We’re confident she’ll make waves in the industry and look forward to seeing what the future has in store for her.
