His design work reaches all corners of the globe. Reconnecting with Karl Paul.

ICE Malta’s MySuccess Graphic Designer Associate course together with Karl Paul’s drive and determination to turn his passion into a profession continues to be his secret to a rewarding career at Gamesys. We reconnected with Karl to see where he’s at.

What have these last 12 months at Gamesys been like?
Firstly, I feel lucky to be working with amazing colleagues and led by experienced creatives. I have to admit that it has been a huge learning curve, however, I am not one to shy away from challenges and constantly push myself. Being part of the design team for a company with a vast portfolio of gaming brands brings along with it a number of demands. I have had to learn to be flexible and to constantly adapt my work to fit the markets, backgrounds and cultures according to the countries in which the brands operate.
Which brands influence you?

I do not follow any particular brands, however I am influenced by platforms showcasing different artists and projects. I also tend to look outside of design for new perspectives.

What has been your greatest lesson?
Never settle on the first design idea.
What makes this career path so rewarding?
I finally understand what it means to find something that you genuinely love to do. It is really satisfying to see content that I’ve created, live for everyone to see – my artwork is uploaded on sites across several countries, or printed out. The more demanding the client is, the more rewarding the process. It is fulfilling to envision the client or user’s needs and arriving at the final result with their requirements. I personally also feel that constructive feedback is so important because it builds my confidence and clarifies expectations, which, in return, helps me to improve and produce better results.
How will you continue to progress?
I consider myself to be a task-oriented individual, and apart from annual work objectives, I also set some personal goals. At the top of the list, yet, in my opinion, the toughest, is to introduce myself to new and different software that I do not use in my day-to-day work. I believe that learning happens daily and is an essential part of a creative’s development and success – it’s what will keep me on the ball and ahead.
Why was ICE Malta your game-changer?
The fact that ICE Malta encourages practical, collaborative learning and incorporates portfolio building in the course is awesome – it’s the best way to master design tools. This combined with the fact that you’re mentored by an industry pro makes the study experience effective and fun.
What’s your message for aspiring design talent?
My goal was always clear and this helped me to keep focused and design a learning journey based on my aspirations. – I want to become a Graphic Designer and work in the iGaming industry. You have to listen to your feelings, don’t be afraid to begin a new career. Learning is the best investment, no matter how old you are.
The sky’s the limit for Karl who continues to craft a career aligned to his greatest aspirations. We can’t wait to see what’s next for this very talented alumni who continues to make us proud.
