What motivated you to enrol for the GDPR Ready Professional?

Some months before enrolling for this course I completed a GDPR Foundation and Practitioner course in the UK. Considering I was already working in IT security, it made a lot of sense for me to take the next step and dive deeper into GDPR learning. Once I heard that ICE Malta was the learning partner for IAPP in the Maltese islands I enrolled immediately as this bootcamp includes two of the most sought-after certifications in the industry (CIPP/E and CIPM).

Why was your study experience effective? What did you enjoy most?

The instructor was definitely one of the highlights of my study experience. He was very engaging and made each topic easy to follow. I also liked the fact that this course is delivered in a bootcamp format – this gives students the opportunity to focus entirely on learning.

In your opinion who should gain more insight regarding GDPR?

I believe it is in the best interest of each and every one of us as living individuals (or what the GDPR defines as “Natural Persons”) to understand the laws and controls that govern our very own data. The Economist hailed data as “the most valuable resource” the very data that identifies and defines us. Such value becomes a target for misuse, and therefore I feel we all should gain at least a basic understanding. That being said, the topics covered in this course are not to be taken lightly, so I also think that individuals who gain the most from this course are those who somehow or other would benefit from the knowledge in understanding the security requirements (amongst others) of said personal data, how to identify the needs for compliance and implement the requirements. These individuals include but are not limited to: Data Protection Officers (DPO), Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), privacy practitioners, IT security, IT helpdesk, compliance officers, and more.

Why did you continue to gain more in-demand industry skills after completing this course?

The world of compliance, especially when linked to IT, is a vast and evolving landscape. In order to understand the bigger picture, it is absolutely imperative for me to keep expanding my knowledge and my skill-set. I have designed a learning plan aligned to my goals and have already enrolled for more courses and have scheduled others including CIS-LA, CIS-LI, PCI-DSS QSA, CISA, CISM, MCSA, CCNA, and many more.

What’s next for you?

My career has driven me into a more in-depth area of “data” protection and into the industry of Information Security. I have already achieved certifications in a few areas and I am am currently focusing on PCI-DSS (Payment Card Industry-Data Security Standard).

Your message to students who would like to continue to progress in their career.

The future is full of possibilities and opportunities, people shouldn’t limit their talents and themselves. If you are determined to achieve your goals and set your sights on reaching a particular aspiration go for it – no matter the obstacles.
