ICE Malta has confirmed the launch of the ICE Malta Student Showcase 2013, an initiative being supported by Malta Enterprise to facilitate the growth of the digital media industry in Malta as an offshoot of the ICT and creative industries.

Through the initiative, students will have the opportunity to exhibit in an online showcase the creative works produced with Unity and 3D Studio Max during their first semester of Game Development and to present them to industry stakeholders during a Soiree that will be held in February 2013, which will also award the top creative talents.

As one of Malta’s leading ICT institutes and a pioneer for specialized courses leading to careers in the creative design industry – such as 3D Animation and Visual Effects with Maya, Graphic Design, Mastering Photoshop CS6, Video Editing and Game Development amongst others – ICE Malta has embarked on the initiative in the belief that Malta has the chance of becoming an integral part of the international creative industry.

In this light, ICE Malta is dedicated to promote the work of those who truly deserve to have their show-reels on display to local and foreign creative leaders who have chosen or are in the process of choosing Malta as a base for their company and who are constantly on the lookout for budding talent.

The idea to launch the ICE Malta Student Showcase 2013 developed following discussions with our dedicated team of tutors who are very proud of the exceptional work students are constantly designing and developing during the duration of a number of our creative design courses. We strongly believe that this design work should be shared with both local and foreign industry leaders who are constantly scouting for new talent. As an institute we are proud to actively play an important role in the ‘study to employment’ process of all our students and we are sure that this initiative will be a great kickstart for a number of working possibilities for local talent. We were very happy to find all the necessary support from Malta Enterprise and look forward to collaborating more during 2013,” ICE Malta’s principal Nikolai Sammut explained.

The students’ show-reels will be launched in February during the ICE Malta Student Showcase Soiree. All 2012/2013 creative design students will present their show-reel to industry leaders and will have the opportunity to share what motivated them to create their work as well as their career aspirations. An esteemed panel of local and international judges will then judge the show-reels on their concept and overall creative idea, the art direction and the use of design and graphic elements, as well as 3D Skills and Techniques used.

The top students will be awarded during a prize giving ceremony that will be held immediately after the show-reel session, where students and the industry leaders will be able to continue celebrating  the growth of the creative design industry on our islands.
