Even though his job isn’t directly related to marketing, Junior Finance & Admin Officer at Gaming1 Lydon Sciberras enrolled for the Professional Diploma in Digital Marketing course during the COVID-19 pandemic because he knew that gaining a solid introduction to the world of digital marketing would offer trigger opportunities for career growth. He tells us about his learning journey and shares how online live learning has saved him money, time and also given him more flexibility. This is his story.
As a Junior Finance & Admin Officer why did you enrol for the Diploma in Digital Marketing course?
My current role with Gaming1 is mostly related to finance but it also consists of a mix between Administration and Affiliation. I had no background in marketing itself, let alone digital marketing. I enrolled for this course as I felt it would be a great way to get introduced to the marketing world; a subject which I was always keen to explore. As we were living in a difficult period due to COVID-19, I had more free time on my hands and decided to invest in my learning journey. Apart from this reason, I had some friends that also applied for the same course. It has been a win/win situation for me as I felt that I had made the most of my time during this period.
What part of the online live study experience did you love the most?
Online classes have saved me money, time and also given me more flexibility. I enrolled for the 5 day bootcamp. It was one of the most engaging courses I have ever experienced. I also loved the extra material provided by ICE Malta through their learning platform TheStudentCampus, which also included access to the recordings of the lectures (a 7-day playback), where you can re-listen to various parts as required, which of course you cannot do in a real-time lecture! The tutor was great, and he had organised each session so that we were mainly just required to listen and absorb content, in each lesson we had the opportunity to discuss and ask questions – it’s very engaging.
Which were your three favourite modules and why?
My three favourite modules are Social Media Marketing, Website Optimization and Youtube & Display Advertising because we are constantly bombarded with social media so understanding how they work and their power is extremely important. Being able to learn these real-world skills has opened up a new world of possibilities – I am now able to develop a strong digital presence, have the skill-set to understand data generated from marketing campaigns and so many more essential skills.
Why have digital marketing skills become essential?
Nowadays, everything is online so customers and prospective clients are online all the time. Digital marketing is faster, cheaper, and more effective than traditional marketing. One of the main benefits of digital marketing is the ease with which results can be tracked. Response rates for digital campaigns can be monitored in real-time with the right analytics. Digital Marketing also helps to yield a higher Return on Investment (ROI) and also target specific audiences.
What’s next for you?
This Professional Diploma in Digital Marketing course has opened so many opportunities for me. I feel grateful to be part of such an amazing team at Gaming1. I can continue to gain valuable experience and develop my skills on a daily basis.
Your message for young talent aspiring to join the iGaming industry.
The iGaming industry is a very fun place to work, however, it is a challenging and dynamic environment. Like every other industry, you have to work hard and invest in your learning journey. Keeping up-to-date on current trends and developments can put you in a strong position and differentiate you in this evolving industry. Most iGaming companies offer incredible incentives to their employees; both personal and educational benefits. This will help you to climb up the ladder quicker while being happy and motivated at work.
