The 20 year old alumni handpicked by Betsson. Meet Brandon.

Five years ago, Brandon Abela visited ICE Malta on a mission to work with leading top brands before he celebrated his 21st birthday. He was hungry to make massive career wins, achieve worldwide recognised certifications, build hands-on skills and a CV which would become his passport to international success. This inspirational alumnus has carefully crafted a plan to achieve his ultimate goal and we’re so proud to call Brandon an ICE Malta Alumni.

You were one of three to score an internship at Betsson. What was it like?
I had an amazing Summer with the Betsson team. The company culture is fantastic – they welcomed us with open arms and the industry learning was immense especially because collaboration at Betsson is a key. My internship also gave me the opportunity to put the JavaScript and C# skills I learnt at ICE Malta to practice.
Betsson Academy is our internship programme where students spend an intensive three months working with our teams building a foundation for a future career with us. Our assessment process is extremely challenging, and Brandon clearly stood out as an exceptional performer. Learning the right technologies with an industry slant gives students an edge in the employment market, so we’re grateful for the fantastic work done by ICE Malta.

Why have you invested so heavily in your learning journey?
ICE Malta’s courses are industry designed – this gave me the opportunity to gain the crucial skills to get noticed by top industry players such as KPMG and Betsson. They’re also worldwide recognised study programmes which compliment my University studies perfectly and are door openers for career opportunities abroad.
How did studying at ICE Malta make an impact?
Practical collaborative learning is what the ICE Malta Study Experience is all about. I enrolled in a variety of different courses from various career paths as my intention is to keep my options open and craft a strong portfolio and CV.
What’s next for you?
I’m in my final year in Computer Science at the University of Malta and while I’m seriously thinking of pursuing a Masters, deep down my dream is to land a career with an international company which is a game-changer. I’m determined to find a way and with ICE Malta’s support, I’m sure I will.
Your message to students.
Don’t let anyone or anything stop you from dreaming big. Choose the right learning partners, surround yourself with individuals who are driven and work hard. Opportunity awaits.
Brandon has crafted his own career fast track and we’re so proud to be by his side supporting and cheering him on. One thing is for sure – we’ll be celebrating massive success with this ICE Malta Alumni.
