Reigniting and fulfilling her marketing dreams. Meet Yasmine.

Yasmine Busuttil always had marketing on her mind, but felt hindered by her lack of work and study experience. When an opportunity arose within her company, she jumped at the chance to move from sales into marketing; fast-forward two years and this Marketing Manager is going from strength to strength with a major mobility brand. With the Professional Diploma in Digital Marketing under her belt, Yasmine is now enhancing her skillset further with the MySuccess Graphic Designer Associate Course. This is her story.

Can you tell us a little about your career background? Did you have everything mapped out from the start?

Not exactly! I always wanted to get into marketing, and in fact I studied a bit of graphic design with Information Technology back at college. Unfortunately, I never managed to get into the industry because I didn’t have enough experience. Most of my work experience was in sales, but having been in sales for around 6 years, (which was not what I originally had in mind as my career path,) I wanted a change. I was still searching around for marketing roles that wouldn’t demand any experience but would just require dedication and training.

Around that time, there was a marketing role opening in the company I was already working for – and I finally gave it a shot! Since then, I’ve been on a learning/working ride and I’ve been enjoying it so much. In short, the path was not one that I had mapped out but it turned out great!

What made you decide to study the Professional Diploma in Digital Marketing with ICE Malta?

I was learning a lot about marketing on the job, but I wanted to gain a more thorough understanding of the subject and current trends.

I heard of ICE Malta through a friend and a colleague who had both completed courses and enjoyed the experience. For me, digital marketing has always been of interest and it was something I had not yet dipped my toes into! Luckily ICE Malta helped me all the way through and I completed the diploma earlier this year. I gained all the practical knowledge I hoped I would and it really supported the growth in my role beyond sales and traditional marketing.

What do you most enjoy about Digital Marketing and what do you love about your current role?

What I love about digital marketing is that you get detailed results about each and every step of your work. It is so satisfying when you put in the effort to create a certain campaign or something and then see the results and stats behind it! My current role touches on every side of marketing, which is something that I was looking for. I really love that diversity.

What’s your take on the evolution of digital opportunities in Malta since COVID?

I think it’s safe to say that businesses around the world had no choice during the pandemic but to adapt and introduce technology into their working systems, which has accelerated the adoption of digital technologies by years. I saw firsthand how quickly companies and service providers had to reposition themselves digitally and it’s had a lasting impact thanks to the way people use the internet, apps, and deliveries, etc.

It’s great to be welcoming you back for the MySuccess Graphic Design Associate course! What made you choose to pursue this subject after your diploma?

As I mentioned, I touched on this topic when I was studying in college. Since I’ve been in marketing, I’ve volunteered to pick up urgent design projects here and there, and it’s still something I like doing. I now want to gain further knowledge on the subject and also brush up on my current skills. It seemed like the next obvious step to complement my digital marketing and will hopefully strengthen my capabilities within my role.

What words of advice would you offer to your younger self?

I was in such a rush when I was younger to figure out what I wanted to do and what career path to take. Seeing how things played out, I now believe there’s no rushing these things. You will eventually find your path and it will lead you to the right destination! I wish I’d known this when I was 16!

We’re delighted to see that Yasmine has found her digital niche and is flourishing in the marketing field. Her success is proof that you don’t need a 3-year university course or degree to pursue your dream career – just the willpower and perseverance to acquire practical skills and experience. With in-demand design skills boosting her digital marketing power even further we can’t wait to see where this marketing star will shine next!

Thanks to ICE Malta, I’ve been on a learning/working ride and I’ve been enjoying it so much. My career path was not one that I had mapped out but it turned out great!
