Just months after completing her Professional Diploma in Digital Marketing course, Social Policy University graduate Jessica Vassallo landed a great career opportunity at Paddy Power Betfair as a Safer Gambling Operations Agent. She shares why gaining digital marketing skills made her more employable. This is her story.
You’re new to the iGaming industry, what’s working in it like?
So far it’s been a very rewarding journey, it is a fast-paced and ever-evolving industry which I love. I also enjoy being part of a team that is always looking to achieve more by being open to feedback and suggestions on how processes can be improved. Every day brings with it new learning opportunities.
How did the Diploma in Digital Marketing course help you score this career opportunity?
The Diploma in Digital Marketing course gave me the skills to be able to apply a high level of marketing principles to my work tasks. Brands with such a strong online presence find digital marketing skills to be essential, must-haves.
What was your favourite part of your study experience?
My study experience was unlike any other. I was super excited to try out remote learning but was a bit hesitant as to whether I would be able to be self-disciplined enough to follow through with it. However, with the support of ICE Malta and the user-friendly interface of their platform, my learning process was very smooth and I thoroughly enjoyed the flexibility and freedom it gave me to study in my own time.
You’re also a University graduate – why are industry certifications/insight an essential combination to your academic experience?
The Diploma in Digital Marketing complimented my Political Sciences Uni degree perfectly as it provided me with a digital edge, making me more employable. The beauty of digital marketing lies in its versatility, in that its principles can be applied to virtually any role.
What’s next for you?
Being a very driven person, I’m always seeking out ways I can elevate my knowledge. Therefore, I am planning on pursuing a Master’s degree shortly as this will allow me to keep gaining valuable skills as well as continue to grow both personally and academically. In this case, my Diploma in Digital Marketing serves as the perfect foundation for me to build both my academic and career advancements on.
Why should talent take charge of their career without further delays?
It is futile to keep postponing as there will never be a perfect time, you must decide to make the commitment to improve your quality of life and broaden your knowledge. In the process, you will be surprised to find out how resilient you are and that you are ultimately capable of doing anything you set your mind on!
