Growing and upskilling together. Meet Emily & Lara.

Emily & Lara are each other’s greatest supporters. They both chose marketing as a career path for its exciting and creative prospects. So to complement their Bachelors in Marketing & Management, they gained the graphic design skills employers want, together — and today, they’re ready to start their new jobs at Steves & Co. and Würth. This is their story.

More than twins — you’re a real team!

Lara: We love doing things together. We’ve always had each other’s back whether at home, work or university. It’s a priceless feeling. We thought that if supporting each other worked for everything else, why not start our ICE Malta course together too!

Sounds just right. Why did you choose the Graphic Designer Associate course?

Emily: We had our a-ha moment at university. We were taking part in a European entrepreneurship competition and a fellow Graphic Design Associate student was competing with us.

Lara: He really managed to take charge thanks to his knowledge of Adobe tools. We got super intrigued about graphic design and thought it could improve our chances of getting noticed when job hunting after uni. He recommended the course and we decided to give it a go.

How did you find the course & study experience?

Lara: We had zero knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. From there, we were handheld step by step until we became proficient in all three in just 10 weeks! It was a bit scary at first to get our hands on so many tools, but thanks to our super educator, we made it successfully.

Emily: Yeah, definitely. And the fact that we could fit online live learning in between university lectures and assignments made it easier to keep going. Our educator would share her screen and guide us through each action step by step which helped keep us involved.

Graphic design is a great complement to a marketing qualification. Employers have been asking us about these skills.

And once again, you had each other’s back.

Emily: Haha, totally! When we booked our two seats we could share the excitement — and fears! — of learning and we could revise class content together. Learning alone is good, but learning together is even better!

How about today? How are you making the most of the skills you gained?

Emily: So far, we’ve practised graphic design on personal and academic projects, but we look forward to using them in our new jobs! Employers have been asking us about these skills during our interviews — and thanks to them, I’ll be starting a marketing position at Würth in June!

Lara: Having these skills gave us that extra boost that so many agencies and companies look for. So much so, that since taking the course, I secured an internship at agency Steves & Co.

Congratulations both! Do you have a message for fellow graduates looking into graphic design?

Lara: The world is getting competitive by the minute, and Malta is no exception. To stand out from the crowd, do top up your academic knowledge with practical skills. You’ll see the difference for yourself — and employers will too.

Emily: Graphic design is a great complement to a marketing qualification. And if you have a buddy to share the journey with, that’s even better!

Emily & Lara have a promising future ahead. They gained graphic design skills together during their studies. Thanks to their will & determination, they’re now ready to take the working world by storm! We can’t wait to see what’s next for them.
