Forging ahead with accredited web and cloud skills. Meet Janson.
Senior Systems Analyst Janson Chetcuti always knew he had a passion for tech. Along with a will to grow and curiosity for new technologies, he recognised that practical skills and industry accreditation are crucial for career progression in IT and found the ideal learning partner in ICE Malta. This is his story.
I’ve always been fascinated by the way things evolve in the tech world and knew it was an industry I wanted to be a part of somehow. I started off studying electronics but switched to IT, and eventually my Diploma in Computer Software Engineering at MCAST led to my first position as an IT Technician. From there I knew I wanted to keep building my skills and being a part of new technological trends.
Having up-to-date and relevant skills is everything in IT. Naturally, I wanted to start adding more depth to my technical capabilities in order to keep progressing in my career. I was aware of ICE Malta and it seemed like the ideal education provider – after all, I think there’s no better recommendation nowadays than outstanding reviews on social media!
I chose the Website Developer course in order to become more proficient in web administration and PHP. I was very happy with the overall experience and it ticked all the boxes in terms of industry training. The skills I gained made me more versatile in my work and the fact I earned the Zend PHP Engineer Certification added an extra boost to my CV.
As I transitioned from IT Technician to ICT Support Officer and eventually Senior Systems Analyst, my work required me to keep upskilling and updating my accreditation. Luckily, I knew that ICE Malta could be relied on to deliver industry-approved training across the board. I like the fact that you’re encouraged to practice your skills as you learn so course content always feels very grounded in real industry application.
I returned to build my skills in cloud computing, starting with the AWS Cloud Practitioner course and later the Microsoft Azure Administrator certification. In both cases, the fact that you’re following an accredited curriculum with professional tutors ensures you learn to use the platforms as intended and enjoy their full potential. And once you get the certification, you can prove to employers that your skills meet the highest industry standards.
Both formats helped me fulfil my learning goals, so in that respect they were both great! Obviously the atmosphere online is slightly different to being in a classroom, but it’s good that you still get to interact live with the educator while benefiting from extra flexibility. I think ICE Malta has done a good job of moving online whilst supporting students at every stage of study.
I’m responsible for analysing current and new systems infrastructure and providing my expertise on how to improve business processes. Everyday is a learning day and a fresh challenge, but that’s what keeps me motivated. I’m proud to have worked my way to a senior role and be in a position to help others – it’s a reminder of how far I’ve come!
I’d like to keep developing my career and reach a leadership role in IT, but most of all I want to keep exploring new skills and technologies. I’m definitely considering learning Python to strengthen my data analysis. AI is also something that really excites me – I can see the industry moving more in that direction and I’m sure we’ll see elements of it affecting our everyday IT more and more so I’d love to get ahead of the game.
The fact that you’re following an accredited curriculum with professional tutors ensures you learn to use the platforms as intended, enjoy their full potential, and demonstrate your skills meet the highest industry standards.
