Different industries need the same digital marketing skills. Meet Justin.

When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, Justin was asked to work a 4-day week at Air Malta and this extra time inspired him to level up with digital marketing skills. He’s recently moved to Gamesys as CRM Technical Executive and shares with us how the Professional Diploma in Digital Marketing course proved to be extremely important for both the aviation and iGaming industry. This is his story.

What inspired you to enrol for the Professional Diploma in Digital Marketing?
Marketing was one of the verticals I was overlooking from a product perspective back in my Air Malta days. When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, we were reduced to 4 day week and this made me realise that this was a great opportunity to learn new skills. Being a product owner responsible for CX and Commercial at the time, digital marketing skills and expert industry insight helped me understand the business in more depth. Eventually, I decided to move on to iGaming brand Gamesys and today I form part of their Retention team. The Diploma in Digital Marketing has helped me grasp CRM best practices faster. Whether in Aviation or iGaming, these in-demand skills have proven to be extremely important to me.
You shifted from Aviation ✈️ to iGaming 🎰 – was this industry change challenging?

A change is always challenging in itself.  Having the right frame of mind and motivation helps you overcome any fear or challenges. Both industries are different from each other, however, there are some similarities such as volatility and agility. Both are a necessity in order to compete with the rest of the leaders within the industry.

What does a CRM Technical Executive do on a day-to-day basis? A variety of tasks.
We start by recapping with the rest of the team on any updates that happened on the previous day. We also get our hands dirty on our products to identify any gaps and potential opportunities to improve and enhance both our player and user experience. Innovation is an important element of our day-to-day tasks. In fact, we are always on the lookout for how we can improve our players’ experience to retain our market position as leaders in our main market. In a few words, my role is to marry marketing with technology.
Which part of the study experience did you find to be the most effective?
Email marketing, Website Optimisation as well as Marketing Strategy modules were my top favourite as I could relate to my projects at the time, that of trying to innovate our email templates as well as improve the UX on our website. The lecturer was very knowledgeable and used to present real-life case studies which really gave us important insight and helped us understand the power of what we were learning.
How did you get exam-ready?
ICE Malta’s learning platform, TheStudentCampus, is very intuitive and acts as a one-stop-shop for all material including the official course content, reading material, presentations, whitepapers, quizzes, and articles.  Personally, the quizzes worked best as they are a good hands-on exercise and prepare you for what is coming up in the exam.
What’s next for you?
I feel happy to be part of such an amazing team at Gamesys. I will keep on developing my product ownership skills as well as keep up-to-date with the latest technology to help drive the team forward to achieve more goals faster.
Justin’s story proves yet again that enrolling for the Diploma in Digital Marketing course which is built by the world’s top brands such as Facebook, Twitter, Google, Microsoft & other extraordinary names will give you career agility which will help you continue to progress and pivot swiftly no matter the business climate. We are certain that world-class learning will remain at the top of his agenda and we’re eager to continue to be by his side celebrating one career success after the other.
