ICE Malta has now been recognized as one of the leading ICT institutes in Europe officially chosen to celebrate the 10th edition of Safer Internet Day 2013. Safer Internet Day (SID) is organised by Insafe in February of each year, and was created to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones, especially amongst children and young people across the world.  The theme chosen for this year is is ‘Online rights and responsibilities’, encouraging users to ‘Connect with respect’ and Tuesday 5th February has been chosen as the official commemoration day.

‘Over the years, Safer Internet Day (SID) has become a landmark event in the online safety calendar. Starting as an initiative of the EU SafeBorders project in 2004 and taken up by the Insafe network as one of its earliest actions in 2005, Safer Internet Day has grown beyond its traditional geographic zone and is now celebrated in more than 90 countries worldwide, and across six of the world’s seven continents and now at ICE Malta. Apart from encouraging individuals to continue to invest in ICT knowledge we are proud to be able to share the official Safer Internet Day message across the islands and also encourage other institutes to share this very essential communication with their students’ Nikolai Sammut, ICE Malta’s principal explains

On Tuesday  5th February the ICE Malta team will be dedicating all their social media messages to awareness for Safer Internet Day and will also share articles and notes issued especially for this year’s celebration.
