Malta wins the international CISCO NetRiders 2013

Ryan Chetcuti, ICE Malta student and one of the three finalists representing the Maltese islands in the CISCO NetRiders 2013 competition, has placed first in the prestigious international competition beating students from Belgium, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden & United Kingdom.

Ryan, together with 2nd place winner Reuben David Spiteri and 3rd place winner Iommi Underwood, was declared Malta’s ambassador for this competition following the local competition held last May 2013 hosted by ICE Malta. As Malta’s first place winner Ryan traveled to the UK yesterday evening together with ICE Malta director Nikolai Sammut and was welcomed by the CISCO UK Headquarters team earlier on this morning where Malta’s finalists competed during a demanding 5hour practical and theoretical NetRiders competition, competing against more than 10,000 students from all over the globe.

‘First of all we’re so proud that Malta’s top three representatives are all ICE Malta students. Moreover no words can explain how happy, satisfied and proud we are of Ryan who thanks to the ICE Malta Study experience and our dedicated and experienced CISCO educators achieved this fantastic result for our islands. Ryan has won an all expense study trip to CISCO California together with the top 7students from countries all over the globe, a study trip which will be an impressive experience and of great value to his career. His results, that is first from Top, North and South Europe is remarkable and is a clear example of our local ICT talent. The ICE Malta team would like to thank the Get Qualified Scheme and Malta Enterprise for recognizing the importance and potential of Malta’s participation in the CISCO NetRiders 2013 competition. After years of our islands not taking part, we’re not only back on the CISCO map but we’ve achieved top results’  Nikolai Sammut director of ICE Malta explained.

ICE Malta has also confirmed that the institute will be hosting the 2014 edition of the CISCO NetRiders 2014 competition therefore students who are embarking on the CISCO study path which includes the PC Technician Course, CCNA & CCNP will be invited to take part in the NetRiders 2014 competition with the chance of achieving great results for our islands. ‘CISCO is one of our leading certifications and is highly recognized by the local and international ICT industry. ICE Malta is committed to ensure that we continue to give students ample opportunities to add this prestigious certification to their CV. Following our recent launch of the third phase of the CISCO Study Path, that is the CCNP course, we are confident that we will continue to receive similar results achieved today which continue to position our islands as a true hub of ICT excellence’ Mr Sammut concluded.
