#5 top takeaways from this year’s Stack Overflow Report.

 

Every year, the popular coding community platform Stack Overflow conducts their annual Developer Survey and just like all other editions, this year’s report is full of interesting statistics which give a snapshot of what’s really happening in the world of code.

Stack Overflow is the largest, most trusted online developer community for developers to learn, share their knowledge, and build their careers. The Stack Overflow Developer Survey Report is based on a survey of 101,592 software developers from 183 countries around the world. Yep, this report is legit.

  1. Python
    is the most wanted language for the second year in a row, meaning that it is the language that developers who do not yet use it most often say they want to learn. Python has a solid claim to being the fastest-growing major programming language.
  2. JavaScript
    is the most commonly used programming language for the sixth year in a row. That’s right. when it comes to trending programming languages and frameworks, JavaScript and JavaScript frameworks reign supreme.
  3. MySQL & SQL Server
    are the most commonly used databases – just like last year.
  4. Linux
    is once again the most loved platform for development, an astounding 48.3% of developers prefer Linux.
  5. 81%
    of professional developer respondents enjoy coding as a hobby.

The coders who are on top of their game have a certain flair, agility and creativity in their technique. They are life-longer learners and they get paid for doing what they ❤️ – this is what makes them shine.

More than 60% of coders actually enjoy exercising. Yes for those who assumed that coders were just bacon-loving, soda-drinking, anti-exercise sorts – you have another thing coming.

For programming you need both the ability to think logically and the creativity to come up with solutions to new problems so let’s bust the myth. Coders are creative too.
